The presence of Russia in the nuclear industry of many countries is already a matter of global nuclear security – DiXi Group expert in Sofia

On June 14, a round table dedicated to the efforts of the countries of the Black Sea region in countering russian economic and political influence was held in the capital of Bulgaria. Experts from the EU and the USA joined the discussion of the topical issue initiated by the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD), including the director of the Energy Futures initiative Melanie Kenderdine, the head of the Forum for Political Education in the German state of Saxony Marco Arndt, the head of the energy programs of the Romanian think tank Expert Forum Ana Otilia Nutu, and DiXi Group expert Olena Lapenko.

The main topic of the discussion was the vulnerability of the countries of the region and the effectiveness of EU measures adopted in response to russian energy blackmail. As experts emphasized, the risks to the EU’s energy and climate security have jumped to the highest level in history. Among the main conclusions of the round table is the need to expand the scope of sanctions, including a complete ban on the import of russian gas, the introduction of secondary sanctions for oil traders, transport and insurance companies that continue to work with russian oil in violation of restrictions.

Olena Lapenko also emphasized the need to expand sanctions on the russian nuclear industry. According to the DiXi Group expert, this has become not only a matter of reducing the income of the aggressor country, which it uses to finance military operations.

“The presence of Russia in the nuclear industry of many countries of the world is already a matter of global nuclear security. The actions of the russian federation in the oil and gas segments directly indicate that for it any cooperation in the energy sector is a tool of blackmail to solve political issues, and the seizure and destabilization of the Zaporizhzhia NPP with the involvement of representatives of the state corporation rosatom also indicates a terrorist component of the actions of russian federation“, – Olena said.
