Performance Indicators of the Energy Area for European Integration

During The Agenda of European Integration: Ukraine’s Ambitions for 2020 public discussion, experts and officials discussed the priorities of cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, in particular, what should be the ideal decision of the Association Council in order for Ukraine to integrate more successfully with the European Union.

– For the European integration plan in the field of energy, there are several indicators of success, – Olena Pavlenko, President of DIXI Group, noted in her speech. – The first is the implementation of the amendments to Annex XXVII of the Association Agreement, and the practical implementation of the cooperation mechanism at the drafting stage. The second is the conclusion of at least one agreement between a Ukrainian operator and a European buyer of Russian gas for gas transportation services throughout Ukraine. The third is the continuation of implementation of measures to integrate Ukraine into ENTSO-E.

The Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, Matti Maasikas, praised the monitoring report on Ukraine’s progress in implementing the Association Agreement with the EU, in particular the work of DiXi Group analytical team, which assessed energy and environmental reforms.

– The report impresses with its quality … I should note that certain parts of this report, such as prepared by DiXi Group, are fantastic work, – said the diplomat during the discussion. – This is an important sign and not only because the issues have been thoroughly studied. I want to say from Brussels, from their leaders, that the Ukrainian government has been under vigilant pressure in this matter, because not only under the pressure of the parliament but also under the most democratic pressure possible. It must feel the democratic pressure from the public, from the people, to fulfill its promise …

The Agenda of European Integration: Ukraine’s Ambitions for 2020 public debate, held in Kyiv on January 21, was organized by the Civic Synergy project.

The “Augean stables” of the extractive sector: is there any progress?

The practice of procuring special extraction permits and then sitting idle on them for decades is unacceptable from the viewpoint of Ukraine’s energy independence and national security, raising budget revenues and the country’s investment attractiveness.
