Olena Pavlenko joined the discussion on mining reform with an American expert

The President of the DiXi Group Analytical Center Olena Pavlenko participated in a meeting with Edward Chow, senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington.

The meeting was held at the office of the Association of Gas Producers of Ukraine. The conversation concerned improving the investment attractiveness of Ukraine and involving international players in the industry. In particular, Edward Chow focused on the fact that geological information should be accessible to anyone, and also emphasized the role of private companies in the development of the gas production industry.

In addition, they talked about the mining sector reform.

“It is very important to have an integrated approach in the mining sector reform. On the one hand, the transparency of work at all stages should be strengthened: starting with the disclosure of geological information and ending up with the issuance of licenses and permits. On the other hand, the ability of both authorities and communities to have a dialogue with companies, jointly plan the development of the region and use funds generated by the extraction industry for long-term goals should increase,” Olena Pavlenko shared her vision of reforms in the mining sector.

Transparency is one of the key prerequisites for effective economic and market development, open competition, fair pricing, and formulation of balanced policy and regulation. Better information openness is also a safeguard against corruption.
