DiXi Group Leader Takes Part in the Energy Community’s Gas Forum

Olena Pavlenko, president of the DiXi Group Ukraine Think Tank, represented Ukraine at the Energy Community Gas Forum held on October 6-7 in Ljubljana.

One of the key subjects discussed at this international forum was Ukraine’s gas sector reforms. According to Olena Pavlenko, the majority of the speakers acknowledged that despite the difficulties, Ukraine showed a rapid reform pace and quality results.

The forum participants expressed readiness to help our country to speed up its integration into the unified energy space of the EU. This support was voiced on the part of both European institutions and partner countries.

“The forum has shown that the EU is ready to make real steps to help Ukraine strengthen its energy security and join the EU’s unified energy space. Currently, there is one major requirement for Ukraine: it should not stop halfway and implement everything assumed on paper,” OlenaPavlenko pointed out.

It is worth recalling that in April 2015, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed the law “On Natural Gas Market” and in September, a package of secondary legislation needed to implement this law.

The trip was made possible due to the support of the Think Tank Development Initiative implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) in partnership with the Think Tank Fund (TTF) and with the financial support of the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine (SIDA).

The practice of procuring special extraction permits and then sitting idle on them for decades is unacceptable from the viewpoint of Ukraine’s energy independence and national security, raising budget revenues and the country’s investment attractiveness.

International Energy Transparency Index 2020: sector openness test – positive or negative?

Transparency is one of the key prerequisites for effective economic and market development, open competition, fair pricing, and formulation of balanced policy and regulation. Better information openness is also a safeguard against corruption.
