- On May 17, energy facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk and Vinnytsia regions were damaged, while on May 18, enemy drones attacked facilities in the Kharkiv and Poltava regions.
- As of May 20, 407 settlements remained offline due to hostilities and technological disruptions.
- Due to a significant deficit of electricity, Ukrenergo activated emergency assistance from European countries, consumption limits were imposed on industry, as well as emergency and scheduled hourly outages of household consumers were applied.
- No commercial electricity exports were performed during the week, imports doubled (143.6 GWh) and were carried out from all available directions.
- Base DAM index increased to 4,264.0 UAH/MWh (+12% WoW), prices were close or at the level of price caps in 64.9% of the settlement periods (mainly night hours, morning and evening peaks).
- The Regulator set new price caps on the DAM, IDM, and balancing market. The maximum prices of DAM and IDM from 17:00 to 23:00 will increase to 9,000 UAH/MWh.
- The government simplified the procedure for the construction and/or installation of gas engine and gas turbine plants, as well as related networks, metering units, and other related equipment. Respective projects are not subject to an environmental impact assessment and may be carried out, inter alia, without allocating a land plot and simultaneously with the preparation of project documentation
- In turn, the Regulator has provided additional clarifications regarding the simplified procedure for connection to the power grids.
- The Cabinet of Ministers decided to allocate over UAH 1.55 billion for the restoration of Zmiivska and Trypilska TPPs (Centrenergo) from the Fund for Liquidation of the Consequences of Armed Aggression and the Reserve Fund of the State Budget.
- The Ministry of Energy approved the Roadmap for the Development of Smart Grids. The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Energy Efficiency Fund were tasked to work with the local authorities and develop programs to ensure minimum energy independence for communities and individual apartment buildings.
- State–owned companies plan to collectively produce 15 bcm of natural gas – so the CEO of Naftogaz Oleksii Chernyshov.
- A governmental draft law on the gradual increase of excise duties on fuel (to the minimum levels in the EU) has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
- After the renewal of Russian attacks in 2024, Ukraine, under the coordination of the Ministry of Energy, received 42 shipments of humanitarian aid (energy equipment) weighing over 600 tons.
