Pressure on Russia through sanctions should continue, particularly in key sectors such as oil and nuclear energy
This was emphasised by Olena Lapenko, General Manager for the organization of advisory services in the field of security and resilience at DiXi Group, in her speech at the Polish Electricity Congress Stowarzyszenie Elektryków Polskich (SEP).
According to Olena Lapenko, the main priorities for strengthening sanctions pressure are:
📌 Reducing the oil price ceiling to $30;
📌 Increased responsibility for oil transportation by the “shadow tanker fleet”;
📌 Reduction of purchases of Russian LNG by the EU countries until they completely abandon the Russian resource.
International cooperation on sanctions against the terrorist country should only get stronger, the General Manager is convinced.
During her speech, Olena Lapenko also spoke about the situation in Ukraine’s energy system and outlined what the country needs to get through the next winter:
– Gas turbines and gas piston plants;
– Rapid deployment of wind generation, installation of photovoltaic systems; to increase the resilience of private households;
– Increased import/export opportunities;
– Pre-purchased energy equipment and repair materials;
– The ability to store important equipment in warehouses abroad.
The expert also shared what she believes can ensure energy security and stability in the country during the war – the transition to a decentralised energy model, when as many generating capacities as possible are built and placed close to consumers.
