DiXi Group to Tell More about the European Market
DiXi Group Analytical Centre will publish the first of the notes in the series of comparative studies of energy market operation in Ukraine and in the EU.
DiXi Group hopes that the studies will help any interested person grasp the situation and get the picture.
These studies are aimed at giving a new momentum to the debates on gas and electricity market reforms and improving their professional level. Such debates should be based on facts rather that myths and cotton-candy views.
In particular, the first analytical note deals with prices. It is prices, instead of tariffs, that is a key category used in the EU energy markets. In Ukraine, the debates on adjustment of electricity and gas prices for households have continued since 2012.
However, the first steps aimed at cancelling subsidies were undertaken only at the beginning of 2015. The opinions on this matter are divided. Some experts believe that given the drop in oil prices which promotes a decrease in gas prices, the Government still continues increasing tariffs. Others believe that it is necessary to raise the prices to the market level to create a competitive market.
DiXi Group experts tried to determine which opinion is true through comparison of ultimate gas and electricity prices in Europe and in Ukraine at the end of 2015.
This note was prepared by DiXi Group within the framework of the Think Tank Development Initiative, jointly implemented by the International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) and the Think Tank Fund (TTF) and financed by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA).
