The conference “Ukraine’s Climate and Energy Policy in the Context of EU Accession”
On November 8, the event will bring together government representatives, businesses, and international partners to discuss coordination and cooperation in implementing the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP). Participants will explore practical steps necessary to realize specific investment projects in the area of green transition that will contribute to the implementation of the policies and measures outlined in the NECP. The discussion will include representatives from the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Energy, the European Commission, the Energy Community, and other international partners.
During the event, key work areas of the Green Transition Office will be presented. This independent advisory body under the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine assists in implementing reforms in green transition, energy, and climate policies. The Green Transition Office team will share its initial results, including sectoral studies on decarbonization potential, ESG research, and a report on emission factors for electricity. Attendees will also learn about the Office’s future plans, including on CBAM, green finance, decarbonization across different economic sectors, and ESG implementation.
Additionally, participants will discuss expectations for the upcoming international climate conference in Baku (COP29), including Ukraine’s progress in climate policy, presentations on the long-term low-carbon development strategy, use of Paris Agreement market mechanisms, and attraction of climate finance . The discussion will include representatives from the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources and international organizations.
The program will open with welcome speeches from key figures such as Yuliia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine – Minister of Economy, Martin Harris, British Ambassador to Ukraine, and Svitlana Hrynchuk, Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. Following this, a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding will formalize cooperation between the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, marking the establishment of the Green Transition Office.
