  • Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal announced a competition for the construction of up to 1.3 GW of new generation capacity in several regions, and also announced plans to expand preferential gas supplies for power generation to facilities in frontline regions built since December 2022 and to explore the introduction of PPA contracts for distributed gas generation entities.
  • Deputy Prime Minister for Ukraine’s Recovery Oleksiy Kuleba reported that the first phase of work on building protection for critical infrastructure facilities as part of regional energy resilience plans is 46% complete, with several regions already moving on to equipment deployment and some customers to foundation construction.
  • In January–March 2026, imports of transformers and inductors increased by 81% (to USD 511 million, of which over 92% came from China), imports of electric generators and converters decreased by 31% (to USD 298.7 million, with Romania, China, and the Czech Republic among the main suppliers), while imports of batteries increased 3.8-fold (to USD 833.9 million), dominated by China (over 88%) with minor supplies from the Czech Republic and Taiwan.
  • As of early April, nearly 500 MW of energy storage systems have been installed in Ukraine, with potential growth to about 1,000 MW by the end of the year, according to Vitaliy Zaychenko, Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo.
  • The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted in its entirety draft law No. 12087-d on the integration of the electricity markets of Ukraine and the EU, which implements nine EU legal acts, provides for the integration of spot and balancing markets, and strengthens consumer protection and energy security. The document also stipulates for the abolition of price caps in the electricity market starting from May 1, 2027, the continuation of competitions for new generation capacity until May 1, 2028, and special transmission tariff conditions for energy storage facilities for a period of 10 years under specified conditions.
  • The filling target for natural gas storage for the 2026/2027 heating season is 14.6 billion cubic meters of gas, with the required minimum set at 13.2 billion cubic meters, according to Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal.
  • During the past heating season, district heating companies accumulated approximately 20 billion UAH in additional debt for gas; the problem is systemic and requires legislative regulation – Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
