• The government’s “protectionist” approach to resolution of the price crisis in gas market begins to malfunction: the gas prices for some households have already risen in December, while certain budget-funded institutions are in danger of discontinued supply…
• The Regulator raised the electricity transmission tariff and promises to complete the procedure of Ukrenergo certification as a transmission system operator in the coming weeks; however, the company’s financial situation remains precarious… The government’s interaction with certain business groups is an acute problem, especially amid the challenges rising during the heating season…
• Germany is trying to restrain the intention of the United States to slap sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 operator, but the effect of its efforts on the U.S. Congress has been insufficient so far…
• Amid declarations of prospective increase of gas production and new populistic initiatives concerning the “economic passport”, the government aims to stimulate gas production but increase tax pressure on ore production…
• The new transmission tariff of Ukrenergo does not envisage sufficient revenues for payments under the feed-in tariff, which contradicts commitments to the IMF and other partners…
