  • Overhead power lines and substation equipment were damaged by drone strikes. Ukrenergo introduced emergency shutdowns in the Kharkiv, Poltava and Sumy regions.
  • The occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP lost connection to the only backup power line for 36 hours.
  • As of July 2024, the indirect financial losses of the energy industry due to the war amounted to 43.1 billion dollars – KSE report.
  • In December-February, electricity consumption restrictions up to 1-1.5 GW are possible – acting Chairman of the board of Ukrenergo Oleksiy Brekht.
  • A nuclear power unit (1,000 MW) was connected to the power system. The Base DAM Index for the week dropped to UAH 3,857.9/MWh (-27.1%).
  • Draft law No. 12087 on market coupling, cross-border balancing, consumer protection, etc., was submitted to the Verkhovna Rada.
  • The government approved a program to compensate 15% of the costs of machinery and energy equipment (localization of at least 40%) purchased by enterprises for ensuring autonomous operation.
  • NEURC issued the first guarantees of origin of electricity from renewable energy sources and initiated changes to the Gas Distribution Code regarding the connection of producers of biomethane and other renewable gases. One of the companies supplied biomethane to the GTS for the first time.
  • Terms of reference for the creation of the NEURC information system to implement REMIT was approved. 
  • USAID allocated USD 825 million to support the Ukrainian power system. Ukraine received USD 1.7 billion from Switzerland for reconstruction projects and EUR 70 million from Germany to provide communities with cogeneration plants, generators, and solar panels.
