- On September 7, external power supply to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was restored via the 330 kV “Ferosplavna-1” overhead line; since August 20, the plant had been disconnected from the grid and relied on emergency diesel generators.
- The government plans to launch an expanded program to insure businesses against war risks through the Export-Credit Agency starting January 1, 2027, allocating approximately USD 1 billion in state funds to finance it, with subsequent additional funding from international partners; Under the program, it is planned to compensate 40–50% of first losses up to a limit of USD 10 million; the insurance premium will be 2% of the coverage amount; and it is proposed to increase the VAT rate from 20% to 21% as a source of additional revenue for the state budget to finance the program.
- As of early September 2026, Ukrainian banks, under the memorandum on the restoration of energy infrastructure, had financed business projects totaling UAH 58.5 billion (+4.3% month-over-month) and projects for the households totaling UAH 4.8 billion (+11.6%), including projects to restore power generation with a total capacity of 2.014 GW (+3.9%) and projects for energy storage systems and the modernization of heating equipment with a capacity of 895 MW (+10.1%); the gross portfolio of “energy” loans totaled UAH 37.6 billion for businesses (+4.4%) and UAH 3.5 billion for households (+6.1%), with financing covering 21 regions of Ukraine.
- According to the Association of Ukrainian Cities, the government committee on the recovery of Ukraine, community development, territorial development, infrastructure, transportation, and utilities supported a draft amendment to the Public Service Obligations (PSO) in the natural gas market, which provides for an increase in the gas price for public
institutions from 16,390 UAH to 25,875 UAH per thousand cubic meters, including VAT. Thus, the price could rise by 9,485 UAH per thousand cubic meters, or nearly 58%. - Naftogaz’s Supervisory Board decided to hold an open competition for the position of chairman of the company’s board of directors, engaging an international recruitment firm. The selection process will be conducted with the support of and in coordination with the EBRD
- Ukraine and Canada signed a Joint Statement on Ukraine-Canada Energy Cooperation, which provides for CAD 757 million in support through the EBRD for the purchase of natural gas ahead of the heating season, a CAD 10 million contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, and CAD 200 million from Export Development Canada to finance
priority energy projects.
