Summary
— On the night of February 16, Russia launched another massive missile attack on critical infrastructure facilities. Impact in the north and west of Ukraine, as well as in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovohrad regions, was reported.
— In the Lviv region, 3 missiles hit a critical infrastructure facility, on which the region’s electricity supply does not depend. Damage to infrastructure facilities was also reported in the city of Kremenchuk (Poltava region) and the Kropyvnytskyi district (Kirovohrad region).
— The attack did not lead to the need of limiting electricity consumption. According to Ukrenergo, on February 16, there was no capacity deficit in the power system. Network restrictions were applied in the Odesa region due to damaged infrastructure.
— According to the Executive Director of DTEK Dmytro Sakharuk, consumption restrictions are not applied due to a combination of factors: completion of repairs at TPPs and NPPs, warmer weather, additional RES capacities, and freshet.
— At a press conference with the Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson, the President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said Ukraine seeks support of Swedish partners in creating a network of modern waste processing plants. “Green” transformation of energy is the direction where “historic results” can be achieved.
— The Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko stated that Ukraine and Turkey will focus on finding safe locations for floating power plants that could increase electricity production for certain Ukrainian regions.
— The government has redistributed powers in the fields of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency among the Ministry of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development (MinRegion), the Ministry of Energy and the State Agency on Energy Efficiency. In particular, MinRegion is authorized with formation and implementation of public policy in the field of effective use of fuel and energy resources, liquid and solid alternative fuels, and energy efficiency. The Ministry of Energy is left with formation and implementation of public policy in the field of RES and gaseous alternative fuels.
