DiXi Group junior analyst Mariia Melnyk participated in the 12th Eurasian regional meeting of the Publish What You Pay (PWYP) coalition. The event took place on 27-30 September in Lviv, where eight countries of the Eurasian region were represented.
During this period, they managed to discuss every country’s progress in implementing the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) for the last year, to learn about the EITI Civil Society Protocol, and to identify the major limitations on the way to implementation of the EITI Standard.
An issue of no less importance raised during the meeting of the PWYP regional coalition was beneficiary law. The participants had an opportunity to analyze the status of disclosure of information related to beneficiary owners. It should be noted that Ukraine is ahead of the majority of countries in this field as it has its own registry and legislative regulations. In view of this, Ukrainian participants presented their experience of disclosure of information on ultimate beneficiaries.
Another topic was the use of new technologies in publication of reports according to the EITI Standard. More specifically, the participants emphasized the need to abandon printed reporting and to create an on-line database for data aggregation where information will be permanently updated, not only once a year.
The meeting took place with the support of the EITI Secretariat, PWYP coalition, International Renaissance Foundation as well as the Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI).
