- Russia is trying to disrupt Ukraine’s preparations for the heating season by striking at energy infrastructure, in particular at electricity and heat generation facilities, as well as at natural gas production facilities – Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
- On August 21, several drones were spotted over the exclusion zone, about 5 kilometers from the Chornobyl NPP, and the IAEA team in Chornobyl heard the sounds of air defense systems.
- The Ministry of Development estimates the level of readiness for the next heating season at more than 70%: more than 103 thousand residential buildings (71%), almost 19.5 thousand social facilities, 13 thousand boiler houses (76%) and 13 thousand kilometers of heating networks have been prepared. The connection of cogeneration units continues: 551 of the planned 908 have already been confirmed for delivery, and 189 are operating in the grid, providing 145 MW of capacity.
- Commercial exports of electricity from Ukraine increased by 56% compared to the previous week and amounted to 141.2 GWh, while imports fell by 53% to 28.1 GWh.
- The monthly Base BCM (bilateral contracts market) index for September was set at 5,150 UAH/MWh (-4.9% compared to August).
- Acting CEO of Energoatom Petro Kotin submitted an application for resignation, which was satisfied, and Pavlo Kovtoniuk, director general of Rivne NPP, was appointed as the new acting CEO.
- As of August 2025, 17.4 MW of energy storage facilities were actually connected to power grids in Ukraine, while technical conditions were issued for 3 GW of BESS-NEURC.
- As of August 23, 6.24 bcm of gas was accumulated in Ukraine’s underground storage facilities, which amounts to 20.6% of the total working capacity of storages (excluding 4.662 bcm of “long-term storage” gas).
