Repair works on the New Safe Confinement (NSC) of the Chernobyl NPP, which was damaged by the Russian attack in February, is planned to start in fall 2025 – the IAEA.
In June 2024-July 2025, Ukrainian banks financed the restoration of generation with a total capacity of about 1 GW, with a gross portfolio of “energy” loans as of August 1 amounting to UAH 16.6 billion for legal entities and UAH 1.2 billion for natural persons.
Commercial exports of electricity from Ukraine doubled compared to the previous week and amounted to 90.8 GWh, while imports fell by 46% to 59.9 thousand GWh.
In the first half of 2025, Ukrainian NPPs generated more than 26,800 GWh of electricity, accounting for more than 50% in the country’s overall electricity balance. The installed capacity utilization rate exceeded 78%.
The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine published a draft law on amendments to certain laws on the implementation of EU legislation in the field of renewable energy sources. The act provides for the acceleration of permitting procedures for renewable energy projects, the definition of mechanisms for statistical transfers and joint support schemes, and the establishment of sustainability criteria for biofuels and bioliquids.
Gas TSO ICGB, together with partners from Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine, is preparing to launch two new routes (Route 2 and Route 3) within the Vertical Gas Corridor, which will ensure the transmission of liquefied natural gas from the Alexandroupolis terminal and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) to Ukraine via the Trans-Balkan Corridor.
Naftogaz of Ukraine and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development signed a EUR 500 million loan agreement for gas purchases, and Norway allocated a grant of NOK 1 billion (about USD 100 million) for similar purposes.
