Project duration: 1 October 2024 – 30 September 2027
About the project
Despite the Russian aggression against Ukraine, ANEW-LIFE project aims to enhance the participation of public and private sectors in financing energy interventions at Ukrainian urban level. The intention is to identify, develop and test innovative financing mechanisms for boosting the reconstruction of the energy
infrastructure inUkraine and for sustaining the decarbonization of local municipalities, as well as to support the creation of a new resilient and cleaner Ukrainian energy system.
ANEW-LIFE will actively contribute to the definition of the first steps for reconstructing the country and building up a new social, economic and technical stability starting from Ukrainian cities Zhytomyr, Kalush and Nizhyn.
To meet this overall objective the project is focused on four main goals:
- Development/Validation of a Bottom-Up Methodology to co-create Clean Energy Plans/Financing instruments to promote UKR cities clean energy reconstruction.
- Development/Validation of novel financing tools for cities clean energy reconstruction driven by energy modelling activities and financing stakeholders’ insights.
- Promote project replication results in further 10 UKR and 10 EU cities via ANEW-LIFE catalogue and dedicated stakeholders’ activities (training, workshops etc.) also in collaboration with relevant EU Initiatives.
- To assess ANEW-LIFE long term sustainability, replicability, sustainability.
Project Impact
ANEW-LIFE is making a real impact on Ukraine’s energy landscape. This project serves as an inspiration for future sustainable energy efforts in Ukraine and across Europe. Through an extensive project validation campaign of energy modelling tools, co-creation approach and financing schemes in its three lighthouse cities (ZHYTOMIR, KALUSH, NIZHYN), ANEW-LIFE will harness the project’s outcomes to not only understand their implications but also to develop a strategy for promoting the project concept beyond the project’s completion. A key aspect of this promotion involves the formulation of a replicability strategy, applicable both in Ukraine (10 cities at least) and across Europe (10 cities at least).
