Members of the Energy Transparency Association learn to work with open data
Representatives of the Energy Transparency Association attending a training held on 21 February in Kyiv learned where to look for and how to use open databases in the extractive sector.
In her greeting word to the attendees, DiXi Group Manager for Sustainable Development Olha Polunina stressed upon the importance of practical application of open data.
What does access to public information give, and what public information is important in the context of EITI and development of territorial communities? These were the basic questions which kicked off the discussion about the use of open data by civil society organizations in their work with local communities.
The attendees had the opportunity to train in analyzing open resources of Geoinform of Ukraine, i.e., learn about the differences and advantages of interactive maps of extractable resources and extraction sites for which special permits were issued.
Using Open Budget portal as an example, the attendees discussed open data as an instrument of analysis and decision making. They also touched upon the analysis of rent dynamics in EITI reports, which is especially important for a meaningful cooperation with communities.
The event was held as part of USAID’s Energy Sector Transparency project implemented by DiXi Group.
