It’s better to have a new energy strategy than to remain with the previous one, but the project must be properly elaborated

A new energy strategy is needed, and it should be adopted at least as it is. Under the conditions when Ministers of Energy quickly replace each other, and their vision of the Ukrainian energy sector development does not always coincide, the success of reforms largely depends on the availability of a long-term development plan. The positive side of the updated draft energy strategy is the plan for decommissioning old power units of nuclear power stations (NPS) and thermal power stations (TPS). At the same time, we should not forget that any strategy is successful to extent that it is performed and not just remains an optional policy document. This opinion is generally supported by the energy group experts of the Reanimation Package of Reforms. These considerations were thoroughly discussed as part of the draft Energy Strategy at a special round table held in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on January 17.

However,we should not forget that in previous years, a lot of draft energy strategies were considered at the Ministry and the Cabinet of Ministers, but none has been adopted to replace the current Energy Strategy until 2030. DiXi Group Experts thoroughly examine the text of the proposed draft energy strategy, but as of now it is clear that it requires a thorough revision.
