On October 19, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fuel and Energy saw the opening of a working meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group to finalize the bill number 2966 (on the NEURC (National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission). The objective of this meeting is to discuss the comments and suggestions expressed earlier and finalize the bill to make it ready for consideration at the Committee on Fuel and Energy and secure support for it from the legislators.
The meeting was attended by MPs from the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, Samopomich (Selfreliance), Batkivshchyna (Fatherland), as well as Ukrainian and international experts from the Energy Community Secretariat, European Commission, Council of European Energy Regulators, and USAID. The event is supported by the International Renaissance Foundation.
For information: the Strategic Advisory Group started operating in early September. It brought together Ukrainian and foreign experts and representatives of the majority of political forces in the Verkhovna Rada. In addition, the Group includes representatives of the Energy Community Secretariat and the European Commission’s Support Group for Ukraine.
Over the time in operation, the Strategic Advisory Group processed more than 190 comments to the present bill. In particular, the matter concerns the risks to the transparency and independence of the regulator on the energy markets.
