Communication Manager of DiXi Group think tank, Denys Kyrkach, took part in a two-day training event called "Mass Media on Energy Efficiency: Relevant, Objective, Motivational".
The event took place in the "News in 24 hours" format. During the training, journalists were able to quickly and intensively delve into the issues of energy efficiency, energy conservation, creation of condominiums, and use of alternative sources of energy.
On the first day, the participants had an opportunity to talk to experts on energy conservation and implementation of energy-saving technologies. In particular, they talked to the Executive Director of the Institute of Local Development, Ruslan Tormosov, USAID Sustainable Energy Manager, Oleksandr Nikolaenko, and USAID Project Expert, Vira Illiash. Furthermore, the heads of two Kyiv condominiums shared their success stories. The Vice Prime Minister - Minister for Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Infrastructure of Ukraine, Hennadii Zubko, also answered journalists' questions.
"When you write about reforms in the energy sector, it is extremely important to be able to communicate this information in a clear and interesting way. That’s why such events are valuable – they combine both "theory" and "practice": one can talk to experts bombarding them with questions, and see everything they talk about in action", Denys Kyrkach shared his impressions of the training.
At the end of the first day, participants of the training visited the Research and Development Center of Design and Study of Buildings with Close-to-Zero Energy Consumption at Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture. This institution has been implementing modern energy efficiency technologies for a long time. During the visit to the Center, participants of the training talked to energy managers, energy auditors, and heads of condominiums.
On the following day, the journalists formed "mini-editorial offices" that developed an article concept based on the information they received during the first day, and prepared one information article per group.
The event was organized within the framework of the USAID Municipal Energy Reform Project together with the Ministry of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Infrastructure of Ukraine.
